Slice of Life/Comedy, Ongoing?, ~250 episodes out, Short episodes, Canvas
I’ve been keeping up with this Webtoon for so long, probably since Covid, which is kind of crazy to think about…
Anyway!
Webtoon Synopsis: Detatched and lacking direction in life, Adam resigns himself to his day job at the cafe. There he meets the regular Chase, who is peppy, sugar-fueled – and his polar opposite.
As I’m writing this I can see the “Detatched” underlined in red. I wonder how I never noticed that.
ANYWAY!
Sunny Side Skies starts out as a lighthearted Webtoon, but touches on realistic problems in day-to-day life with every introduced conflict. Personally, I really like the first couple of storylines for this Webtoon because of very funny and relatable character interactions. The two main characters are very obvious foils (foil: a character whose purpose is to accentuate or draw attention to the qualities of another character, most often the protagonist; per Google), so it’s nice to see that such different people can bring out the best in each other and become friends.
However, I do have some minor qualms about this webtoon. They don’t detract from the enjoyability, but they are just things I noticed.
First, the author doesn’t update regularly anymore (hence the question mark next to “Ongoing” in the subheading). I understand; passion for a project can die out, or storylines are hard to think of. That’s the thing with Canvas Webtoons: the authors don’t have to create many episodes to release early every week, so they can publish at their own schedule. The characters are so memorable, though, that I wish I could see more of them in their endeavors.
Additionally, the art style shifts throughout the chapters. This makes sense, considering the above and the fact that this Webtoon has gone on for at least 5 years. I don’t have a huge problem with this, since I mainly read for the characters, but I do find myself a little disappointed when I’m expecting one style and seeing another. But it doesn’t become different to the point of extreme low effort and wonky appearance, so I’m okay with it!
(And the art never suffers from same face syndrome! Plus the proportions are always correct!)
If this interests you, go and check out the first couple of pages. They are pretty short and comic-style, so reading this doesn’t require huge investment.
AND IF BY ANY SMALL CHANCE THE AUTHOR IS READING THIS: I REALLY MISS GETTING SUNNY SIDE SKIES UPDATES AND I HOPE YOU RETURN TO THIS STORY SOON!!
Peace and love,
